Neil Diamond Information:
Neil Diamond is, arguably, one of the most popular and successful singer/songwriters of all time. He scored a number of hits in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. From the 1960s to the 1980s, Diamond was a successful pop music performer, scoring a number of hits worldwide. As of 2001, he claimed worldwide record sales of 115 million copies, and as of 2002 he was ranked third, behind only Elton John and Barbra Streisand, on the list of the most successful adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart. As of May 2005 he had sold 120 million records worldwide, including 48 million records in the U.S.
Neil Diamond will begin a 37-city tour of North America on July 19 in St. Paul, Minn., with a highly anticipated stop at Boston's Fenway Park on August 23rd. It wraps October 30 in Jacksonville, Fla. The trek follows a European tour that kicks off May 24 in Rotterdam. Diamond, 67, will be promoting "Home Before Dark," his second album with producer Rick Rubin. It is set for U.S. release on May 6. Their previous collaboration, "12 Songs," came out in 2005 to wide acclaim. Diamond's last tour in 2005 grossed nearly $80 million from 86 shows that drew 1.2 million people.
Fenway Park Information:
Fenway Park is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and has been open for business since 1912. This makes this park one of the oldest in the entire country. But with that being said, it is safe to say that Fenway Park is not going anywhere in the near future. Not only do the fans love this park, but the players also love the history that is has to offer.
The Boston Red Sox of the MLB are the only tenant of Fenway Park. In the past, several other teams have also played home games at this park, but none since the Boston Patriots of the AFL in 1967.
The great thing about Fenway Park is that it is one of the classic parks that are never going to get old. The feature that most people are familiar with is the "Green Monster." This wall is located in left field, and is more than 37 feet high. Built in 1934, it is safe to say that any player who hits the ball over this wall has plenty of power.
Throughout the years Fenway Park has seen many great players come and go. Perhaps, the most popular is Babe Ruth who started his historic career with the Boston Red Sox in 1914.
Although Fenway Park was never a big concert venue, new ownership has changed this just a little bit. Starting in 2003 Fenway Park has hosted two concerts per year. Concerts have included performances by big names such as The Rolling Stones, Jimmy Buffett, and Bruce Springsteen.
Fenway Park is nearly 100 years old, and hopefully it can stand the test of time for many more. All in all, this is one of the greatest venues in the entire world!
